Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Notre Dame Gators took on Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Neumann University on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the gloomy weather the Gators had a big crowd for a special day at Alumnae Field. Notre Dame Athletics celebrated lone senior Peace Ani before the game for all of her achievements on the field hockey team.
Sophomore
Megan Morales opened scoring in the games as she scored unassisted on a well-played drive and shot five minutes into the half. The Knights knotted up the score shortly after. With strong defensive effort by both teams, the Gators and Knights went into halftime, score tied at one apiece.
Through the first nine minutes of the second half, the game would remain scoreless until Neumann took a 2-1 lead off a corner in the 44
th minute. On an unlucky break for the Gators, Neumann added another goal on a stroke shortly after. Notre Dame had two scoring chances back-to-back. Two corners by
Michaela Seay led to an excellent shot by Morales.
Jessica Wells and
Keyeria Dawson played big role in the speedy offense for the Gators but Notre Dame couldn't prevail and fell, 3-1.
With the conclusion of Wednesday's conference contest against the Knights, Notre Dame has wrapped their 2017 home schedule. The team will now face their three remaining conference opponents on the road, the first on Saturday at Keystone College.
In her three season with the NDMU field hockey team, Peace has made 28 appearances for the Gators. Last year, Peace recorded her first career goal against Sweet Briar in the team's first game of the season. Her goal contributed to a 5-0 victory for Notre Dame against the Vixen. A defensive threat for the Gators, Peace has tallied nine defensive saves in her career and saw national ranking in her rookie season for total defensive saves.
Peace was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic team and was on the Notre Dame Dean's List. She is a member of the NDMU Bible Study and Pitchfit, Notre Dame's Acapella group. Peace is also a member of the Notre Dame lacrosse team and will return for her third season with the team in the spring. At Notre Dame, Peace is in the Nursing program.
