BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Notre Dame Maryland lacrosse team will be seeking its first win of the young season when the Gators host Keystone College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday, March 25 at Alumnae Field at 1:00 p.m.
Due to the sporadic schedule because of the weather, the Gators will be playing their second game of the week for the first time this season. Notre Dame opened its season on March 4 at Wesley. Nine days later, the Gators faced Wilkes in their home opener. After their next two games were postponed due to snow, Notre Dame returned to action on Tuesday with a home game against Hood College.
Meanwhile, Keystone comes to Baltimore with a 2-2 record. Both of the Giants' wins have been one-goal decisions. Most recently, Keystone edged Lancaster Bible by 20-19 in overtime.
Led by sophomores
Megan Morales and
Kirstin McGee as well as junior
Kaitlyn Walter, the Gators are averaging more than 13 goals per game.
With 13 goals and six assists, Morales leads the CSAC by averaging 6.33 points. Her 13 goals tie her for the team lead with Walters. Walters, who had a career high five goals against Hood, has 13 goals and three assists for 16 points. She is the second-leading scorer in the CSAC with 5.3 points per contest.
McGee has scored three goals with 10 assists and her 3.33 assists per game lead the league.
Morales has also been very effective on draw controls. She has 24 draw controls in three games, averaging eight per game. She leads the CSAC in draw controls.
The Giants are led by juniors Nina Hodanich and Emily Hawkins. Hodanich has scored 14 goals with four assists for 18 points. She is the fourth-leading scorer in the league. Hawkins has also scored 14 goals and has one assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Daphne Leenas has played very well to date. She is averaging a league-leading 16.75 saves per game. Deja Martin of the Gators is second in the league averaging 11.67 saves per contest.
After Saturday's game, the Gators return to action on Tuesday, March 28 against Neumann University at 4:00 p.m.
