Field Hockey Drops Season Opener

Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Notre Dame field hockey team opened their 2017 campaign today on the road at Wilson College.  Notre Dame held Wilson to one first-half goal, but would eventually fall, 5-0.

Notre Dame put up a good fight in their opening contest against the Phoenix.  In the first 10 minutes of play, Wilson posted four shots on goal, but were saved by first year goalkeeper, freshman Calenna Cauley.  The Gators gave up their first goal of the night with 12 minutes off the clock.  For the rest of the first half, Notre Dame saw 12 more shots, but held Wilson. 

In the second half, the Phoenix put up four more goals on the Gators.  Notre Dame had four corner opportunities in the second half, but couldn't convert their scoring opportunities.  Cauley posted 23 saves in her season debut.  Senior Peace Ani and sophomore Nicole Neidhardt each recorded a defensive save.

The Gators will have their first home game of the season tomorrow, September 2 against Sweet Briar.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
