Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Notre Dame soccer team traveled to Wilson College where the Gators secured their first victory of the season, 6-1.
Freshman
Morghan McQuaige was the first to score for the Gators, recording her first career goal in the first eight minutes of play, dribbling into the box and shooting it past the keeper. Three minutes later, McQuaige found the back of the goal again, this time dribbling up the left side of the field, beating her defender to give the Gators a 2-0 lead. In the 13
th minute of play, Wilson would get back within one goal as they put one up and over goalkeeper, sophomore
Loren Pardoe. In the closing minutes of the first half, McQuaige secured her first hat trick putting the ball in past the goalie, assisted by junior
Meghan Conner. The Gators went into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
In the second half, Notre Dame would score three more times. McQuaige would help Conner find the goal for her first goal of the game, scoring in the 55
th minute. Conner scored two more times for the Gators in the following 13 minutes of play, also posting a hat trick.
In another impressive offensive and defensive effort for the Gators, the team out-shot Wilson 29 to 11, with 22 of their 29 shots being on goal. Seven different players recorded shots for Notre Dame. Senior
Alla Stepanov tallied her second assist this season, assisting in Notre Dame's final score of the night by Conner. In goal for the Gators, Pardoe posted seven saves, while facing 11 shot attempts from the Phoenix.
Notre Dame comes home Saturday as they host Eastern Mennonite University at 3:00 p.m. After Saturday's matchup the Gators will begin their conference play, traveling to Immaculata University on Wednesday, September 20
th.
