Gators Split Weekend, Wins Home Opener

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – In their 2017 home opener, the Notre Dame field hockey team claimed a 5-0 victory over Sweet Briar College.  On the rainy afternoon, the Gators and Vixen were even through the first 15 minutes of play, but Notre Dame got on the board first, notching their first goal of the season.  Sweet Briar held the Gators to just one score in the first half.  In the second half, Notre Dame registered 16 shots, finding the back of the goal four times.  In the game, four different players recorded goals.

The Gators were led in scoring by junior Megan Morales who posted two goals.  She now has 18 career-goals.  Sophomore Jessica Wells netted her third career goal in the game, while junior Kayla Becker and freshman Kat Malone both recorded their first career goals.  Freshman Michaela Seay posted an assist on Becker's score.  The Gators were offensive threats in the game posting 32 shots, 22 of which were on goal.  Six different players posted shots in the Gator victory.

In their second game in two days, Notre Dame moves to 1-1 overall this season.  They will have a week off before hitting the field.  On Saturday, September 9, the Gators will host Virginia Wesleyan College at 1:00 p.m.
