Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Notre Dame soccer team traveled to Gallaudet University today for their season opener. The Gators got on the board before the end of the first half, but would give up two goals to the Bison in the second half, falling 2-1.
In the opening minutes of play, the Gators saw several scoring opportunities. Junior
Meghan Conner recorded the first two shots of the game in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Gallaudet goalkeeper posted saves on both. In a mostly offensive first half for Notre Dame, the team posted nine shots, but in the 41st minute Conner found the goal off a corner kick by senior
Alla Stepanov. In the first half, the team only allow three shots and only one of which was on goal, saved by sophomore goalkeeper,
Loren Pardoe.
Again to open the half, Notre Dame jumped on the offensive end, posting two shots in the first three minutes of play. In the 59
th minute, Gallaudet tied the game, posting their first goal off a fast break. Pardoe blocked the first shot attempt, but the Bison jumped on the rebound, finding the back of the net. Through the next 27 minutes of play, the team played evenly, both putting up several shot attempts. In the 87
th minute, Gallaudet broke the tie, scoring just out reach of Pardoe. The Gators posted two more shot attempts to close out the game, but the Bison goalkeeper picked up two clutch saves to seal the game.
The Gators posted 12 shots on goal, led by Conner with seven. Freshman
Morghan McQuaige recorded two in her career debut. Senior
Lindsey Webb and junior
Lilly Gordon added one apiece. In the goal, Pardoe posted five saves off of seven shot on goal attempts.
Notre Dame will see two days off before they host Greensboro University, Saturday afternoon.
