Volleyball Takes 3-2 Victory Over Shenandoah

BALTIMORE, Md. – Hosting Shenandoah University in non-conference action, the Notre Dame volleyball scored a five set victory, Wednesday night. 

The Gators dropped the first two sets against the Hornets, 25-21 and 25-19.  Charging back in the third and fourth sets, Notre Dame evened the match at two apiece after scoring 25-20 and 25-19 victories. 

In the fifth set, after going on a 7-1 run, Notre Dame allowed the Hornets to chip away at their lead seeing the score tied at 10 apiece.  Three kills by sophomore Michaila Sheedy helped propel the Gators in the final stretch, taking the match, 15-13.

Notre Dame had four players record a .400 hitting percentage or greater in the match.  Freshman Alyssa Kerns crushed her career-high, posting a match-leading 16 kills, hitting for .438.  Junior Kayleigh Davis also posted 16 kills for the Gators as Kerns and Davis combined for 60% of the team's kills.

Sheedy had a solid night hitting, posting 10 kills, hitting for .409. 

The Gators great night at the net was backed by their best defensive match of the season.  The team posted a season high, 90 digs led by junior Mary Marquez with 24. 

Four different players recorded 10 or more digs.  Davis posted a double-double in the match also recorded 19 digs, while freshman Emma Jordan and senior Ricelle Taganas combined for 20 digs.  

Kerns led the team in blocks, recording four assists and two solos.  The team finished the match with six.

Junior Sara Few posted 32 assists, while also tallying six kills.

From the service line, the Gators had six aces, with Jordan and Sheedy leading with two apiece.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Notre Dame will face two on Saturday as they host Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Cedar Crest College and non-conference opponent Christendom College.
