BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame volleyball hosted St. Mary's College of Maryland Tuesday night in their lone non-conference match of the week.
The Gators charged to a 1-0 lead, taking the first set 25-22. A slow start in the second set, put the match at one a piece going into the third set. The Gators fought in the third, but could not get past the Seahawks dropping the set, 25-21.
Notre Dame challenged St. Mary's coming back from a 23-20 deficit to take the fourth set 25-23. In the final set of the night, the Gators held a 7-2 lead, but let the Seahawks fought back to get the score even at 13. After trading points, St. Mary's took the match in extra points, 18-16.
The Gators and Seahawks were evenly matched, with Notre Dame posting only one more attack attempt than St. Mary's. The Gators racked up 58 kills in the match, spread over seven different players.
Sophomore
Sarah Sweet led the team in kills, recording 20 kills, with junior
Kayleigh Davis close behind with 18.
Freshman
Alyssa Kerns registered eight kills on 18 attempts without an error. This is her seventh match this season hitting over .400 and fourth without recording an error.
Sophomore
Michaila Sheedy and senior
Ricelle Taganas each posted four kills, while junior
Sara Few and sophomore
Anna Gamble each added two.
In a low performance from the service line, Notre Dame posted seven aces, led by Sweet with three.
On defense, Sheedy had two solo and three assisted blocks, while Kerns added one solo.
Four players posted double-figure digs, led by
Mary Marquez with 19. Taganas was right behind her with 18, followed by Davis with 17. Sweet added 14 in the match.

The Gators will now hit the road Thursday as they travel to CSAC opponent, Wilson College.
