Gators Go 2-0 at Lincoln Trimatch

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Notre Dame volleyball team continued their opening weekend on the road at Lincoln University for a double feature as they also faced former Colonial Athletics Conference opponent, Gwynedd Mercy University.

Scores: 25-11, 25-14, 25-13

The Gators had 33 kills against the Lions with three different players posting seven or more kills apiece.  Junior Kayleigh Davis led the team with nine kills, while sophomores Sarah Sweet and Michaila Sheedy added eight and seven, respectively. 

Sheedy and freshman Alyssa Kerns both hit above .400 against the Lions with Sheedy going 7-for-9 with one error and Kerns posting a .429 hitting percentage. 

Junior Sara Few paced the team in assists, tallying 18, while the team finished with 29.

In their second consecutive match, the Gators helped secure their victory with strong serving.  In the match, Notre Dame posted nine aces, with senior Ricelle Taganas leading with five. 

The Notre Dame defense held the Lions to only six kills in the match, and only one kill in both the first and second sets. 

Sweet led the team in digs with eight, while junior Mary Marquez followed her finishing with five.  The team had 28 for the match. 

Kerns had the only solo block of the match for Notre Dame. 
 
Notre Dame vs. Gwynedd Mercy
Scores: 25-10, 25-16, 25-19

Notre Dame opened strong against the Griffins, hitting for .179 in the first set.  They tallied 10 kills in both the first and second sets, and sealed the third with nine.  Davis and Sweet led the Gators in the front row, registering a combined 14 kills, while the team finished with 29. 

Sheedy had a .364 hitting percentage against GMU, picking up five kills in 11 attempts with only one error.  She is currently pacing the team in hitting percentage, hitting .500 through the first weekend of play.
Taganas had 16 assists for NDMU, while also tallying eight digs.

From the service line, seven different players notched at least one ace in the match.  Davis lead the way with four aces, while Sweet added three and sophomore Hannah Amodia had two.

Defensively, the Gators posted a season-high, 56 digs with nearly every player recording at least two.  Marquez, Davis, and Sweet paced the team, tallying double-digit digs each, combining for 35.

Kerns tacked on two more solo blocks. Through the team's first three games of the season, she leads the team in solo blocks with three.
 
What's Next?
Notre Dame will have the holiday weekend off before returning home for back-to-back home matches.  First on Tuesday, the Gators host Penn State Mont Alto at 7:30 p.m. and then local rival Goucher College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
