Gators Take Double Overtime Victory Over Bison

BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame soccer scored a thrilling double-overtime victory this afternoon against Gallaudet University in their second game of the season.  The Gators did not show any let up as they charged from a first-half deficit to outlast the Bison, recording their second victory of the season, 2-1 (2OT).

Senior Meghan Conner served as the lone goal scorer for the Gators, posting both the regulation goal to tie the game in the first half and the game winner early in the second overtime.

On the hot and humid day, the Gators started off slow giving up an early goal to the Bison in the 12th minute mark.

In the first half, Gallaudet tallied 12 shots, putting pressure on the NDMU defense.  For the rest of the game, the Bison would only register four shots, as the Gator defense found their pace.  The Notre Dame defense took charge as they broke up passes and helped clear the ball when Gallaudet brought pressure.

Notre Dame only had two shots in the first half, but found their rhythm, recording seven in the second.

The Gators posted their game tying goal in the first minute of the second half.  After an early turn over by Gallaudet, junior Loren Pardoe shot a long pass up to Conner who dodged the defense for the score.

Notre Dame saw many close opportunities to take the lead in regulation, but a solid effort by the Bison goalie, held them scoreless going into the first overtime.

In the first overtime, Gallaudet struck first, recording a shot in the 92nd minute mark, but Notre Dame goalie, Trinity Pfeiffer made the save.  Conner got off two shots in the first OT, but the end of the first 10 extra minutes would come without a score.

Pfeiffer finished the game with eight saves in her first complete game in goal for NDMU.

To start the second overtime, the Gators came out strong and in the 101st minute, Conner powered through defenders to find the back of the goal, sealing the 2-1 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Gators get some time off before heading to Neumann University this Saturday.  Notre Dame will face the former Colonial State Athletic Conference members at 1:00 p.m.
