Volleyball Secures Road Wins at Christendom

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRONT ROYAL, Va. – Notre Dame volleyball hit the road Saturday afternoon for a double feature match up, as the Gators faced the Christendom Crusaders and the Penn State Fayette Nittany Lions. 

NDMU vs. PSU
3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 24-26, 25-16)

In their first match of the day, the Gators faced the Nittany Lions, taking the first two sets before dropping the third.  Notre Dame rallied back, finishing the match in four, 3-1.

The team racked up 49 kills against the Nittany Lions, led by sophomore Sarah Sweet and junior Kayleigh Davis.  Sweet finished the match with a season-high 17 kills, while Davis had 10.

Sophomore Michaila Sheedy also recorded a season-high, finishing with eight kills and hitting for .412.  She also had a standout day at the net finishing with three solo blocks and three assists. 

The Gators keep up their league-leading aces effort, posting 10 against PSU.  Sweet and junior Sara Few paced the team, combining for seven. 

Mary Marquez led the team on defense, picking up 18 digs.
 
NDMU vs. Christendom
3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-21)

In their second match of the day, the Gators faced the trimatch host, Christendom.  Backed by strong serving, the Gators posted the 3-0 sweep.

On the service line, Few paced the team with seven service aces.  Senior Ricelle Taganas followed her with four aces, while Davis and freshman Emma Jordan posted two apiece.  Freshman Angel Carino also finished with one ace.

Sweet and Davis again led at the net, combining for 17 kills.  The team had 29 for the match.

Setting for the Gators, Few posted 26 assists. 

On the defensive end, the team tallied 60 digs against the Crusaders, led by Taganas and Carino who combined for 21.

At the net, Notre Dame finished with seven blocks, led by freshman Alyssa Kerns with four solos.  Sheedy tallied one solo and two assists. 

 
WHAT'S NEXT?
Notre Dame will have three matches this week as first they will travel to Washington Adventist University on Wednesday and then travel to Penn State Berks for a trimatch versus PSU Abington and Berks, Saturday.
