Soccer Clinches CSAC Playoff Spot in 3-2 Win

BRYN ATHYN, Md. – Notre Dame soccer secured a spot in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs after defeating the Bryn Athyn College Lions on the road Thursday night.  The Gators jumped out to an early lead and then battled to pull out the 3-2 victory.
 
Junior Adrianna Fletcher scored the opening goal for the Gators, notching her second goal of the season in just under seven minutes into the game.  Fletcher scored off a ball from sophomore Chelsea Llivichuzca
 
In the 21st minute, Bryn Athyn posted an equalizer off a penalty kick. 
 
Nearly 15 minutes later, freshman Sara Morales scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Gators the 2-1 advantage.
 
Notre Dame went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
 
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Lions came out shooting.  In the 49th minute, Bryn Athyn again tied up the game at two apiece. 
 
After a save by freshman Myla Young late in the 61st minute, the Gators turned defense to offense.  Less than three minutes later, Fletcher posted her second goal of the game off an assist by Morales. 
 
The Gators took the 3-2 lead and didn't look back.

In the even game against the Lions, the Gators went shot for shot with Bryn Athyn.  The Lions posted one more shot in the game over the Gators, while each team tallied eight shots on goal.  In goal for the Gators, Young tallied six saves.
 
Notre Dame scored their fifth conference win of the season for the first time in program history since joining the CSAC in 2007.   The win on the road today, sealed the program's first trip to the CSAC playoffs with two games left to play.  Their final seed will be determined after the conclusion of the regular season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
Notre Dame has two games left to play in their record-breaking season.  They will first host current second seed, Centenary University on Saturday.  On Halloween, the will travel to Rosemont College for their last game of the regular season.
