Soccer Suffers Tough Loss at Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Notre Dame Gators traveled to the Cairn Highlanders for a Saturday afternoon Colonial States Athletics  Conference matchup.

Facing their first CSAC away opponent the Gators tried to continue their momentum after a 4-0 win last week. In a battle of offense versus defense, a low scoring game was ahead.

The Highlanders started off with a few chances by streaking down the side line and putting a ball in the box. A defensive backfield of sophomore Andreina Franco-Ramos and senior Hannah Woodworth slowed the attack of Cairn until deep into the second half.

With limited chances the Gators needed to take advantage of any scoring chance on the offensive side. Mid way through the first half the Notre Dame midfield of senior Colette Pierce, sophomore Kayla Grube, and freshman Sara Morales found a rhythm to posses the ball for a great segment. Their work lead to giving the ball up to junior Adrianna Fletcher who put a great shot to the bottom corner of the goal. After a save by the Highlander goalkeeper went out of bounds the Gators were set up with another scoring chance on a corner. Despite a well placed ball by junior Madison Stoner the Gators couldn't convert.

Minutes later in the 29th minute of the game Cairn sparked an attack on a takeaway and converted that into a goal to break the 0-0 tie. The game would remain at that score through the half.

In the second half the game would remain a back and forth with a lot of play in the midfield and on the Notre Damn half of the field. Freshman Myla Young kept the Gators in the game with her play in goal.

With just under five minutes to play coach Lexi Rudolph made a tactical change in hopes of creating more attacking options. Unfortunately, letting Senior Loren Pardoe loose to lead the offense from anywhere proved to avail and the Gators would fall 1-0.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Gators will stay at home on Tuesday for a CSAC matchup against Wilson College at 4:00.
