BALTIMORE, Md. – Going back-to-back, the Notre Dame of Maryland University volleyball team is the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference Champions. The Gators scored the 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19) victory Saturday afternoon, securing a bit to the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
The Gators battled the Falcons throughout the match, with long rallies and several runs.
In the front row, Notre Dame posted their third best kill performance finishing the match with 50.
Sophomore
Alyssa Kerns led the pack with 19 kills, followed by junior
Michaila Sheedy with 13.
From the service line, the Gators struggled early, but finished the match with 16 aces. Senior
Sara Few paced the team with her career high, 11 aces.
Few also finished the match with 43 assists. At the conclusion of the match, she was named the Championship MVP.
Defensively, senior
Kayleigh Davis and
Mary Marquez led the team with 18 digs apiece, while the team posted 69. Few and freshman
Ivanella Figueroa also posted double-digit digs combining for 23.
The Gators finished the year with a 25-3 record.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The win today guarantees a bid to the NCAA Tournament. On Monday, the Gators will found out their selection at 12:30 on ncaa.org.
