BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame lacrosse team picked up their second-consecutive home victory today as they faced off non-conference opponent, Lancaster Bible College. The Gators charged out to an early lead and after allowing the Chargers back in late, held on to advance to 2-2 on the season with the 16-9 victory.
In the first half, the Gators got the scoring started early, when senior
Megan Morales notched her first goal of the game off a free position shot in the opening minute of play. Freshman
Katie Hawkins gave NDMU a 2-0 advantage with five minutes off the clock, scoring her second of the season.
Lancaster Bible got on the board in the 25
th minute, to cut the Notre Dame lead to one. Back-to-back goals by Morales and freshman
Julie Hagis gave the Gators' a 4-1 lead with 18 left in the half.
After a score by the Chargers, the Gators went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-2 lead with nine minutes to play in the first. LBC scored the final three goals of the half, while NDMU going into halftime with a 9-5 lead.
To open the half, Notre Dame let Lancaster Bible back in, struggling to score. Through the first 18 minutes, LBC went on a 4-2 run to cut the Gators lead to two, 11-9.
The Gators shut down the Chargers in the remaining minutes of the game. In the final 11 minutes of play, Notre Dame went on a 5-0 run to close out the game. NDMU scored their second victory of the season, 16-9.
Five different Gators scored in the NDMU victory, led by Morales with eight goals. She also finished with a game-high, 10 draw controls.
Hagis added four goals in the win and a team-high two assists. Hawkins finished with two goals, while freshman
Stephanie Morgan and
Vanessa Dunn added one apiece.
On defense, Morales and senior
Kayla Becker led the team with two caused turnovers. In goal for the Gators, sophomore
Marie Salas posted 11 saves for a .550 save percentage.

The Gators have a week off from play. They will open up their Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule versus Centenary University at home on March 23 at 1:00 p.m.
