Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – Notre Dame lacrosse traveled to Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.  The Gators put up a fight against the Giants, but fell, 15-19.

In the delayed start, the Gators were the first to strike.  They opened up the game holding a 2-1 lead.

After seniors Megan Morales and Kirstin McGee scored the opening goals for the Gators in the opening five minutes of play, NDMU scoring went cold, allowing Keystone to take a lead.

Notre Dame in the first half went over 10 minutes without scoring, but Morales' second goal of the game, started a 4-3 run late in the first for NDMU.

The Gators went into the half down four, 6-10.

To start the second half, the Gators came out ready to battle.  In the opening minute, freshmen Stephanie Morgan and Julie Hagis scored to help cut the Giants' lead to two.

Two quick scored by Keystone, again saw Notre Dame down four, 8-12.

Over the next five minutes of play, NDMU held the momentum, getting within one goal of Keystone with two scores from McGee and one from Morales, 11-12.

In the final 11 minutes of play, Keystone pulled away, outscoring Notre Dame, 5-3 to keep the game out of reach.

Morales led the team with seven goals, followed by McGee and Hagis recording three apiece.

McGee added two assists to her league-leading performance this season.  She also led the team with seven draw controls.

On the defensive end, Morales posted five caused turnovers, following by sophomore Michaela Seay with four.  In goal for NDMU, sophomore Calenna Cauley finished with a career-high 13 saves.
