WASHINGTON, D.C. – Notre Dame soccer opened their 2019 season on the road Friday under the lights at local rival, Gallaudet University. The Gators and Bison battled seeing the score tied through regulation. Late in the second overtime, Notre Dame sealed their OT victory, 1-0.
In the game, the Gators outshot the Bison, posting 14 shots on goal. Freshman
Sara Morales, led the squad in her career debut with four shots, followed by senior
Colette Pierce with three.
Seven different players registered shot on goal.
The game winning goal came in the 105
th minute of play as sophomore
Julie Hagis beat a defender to score a long from the right side, floating over the goalie head. Sophomore
Madison Stoner helped start the play off a throw in.
In an evenly played contest, the Gators narrowly outshot the Bison, 14-12.
In her career debut in goal, freshman
Myla Young posted her first shutout racking up 12 saves.
This is now their second consecutive season defeating Gallaudet in 2OT. Last season at home, the Gators defeated the Bison, 2-1.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Soccer will have the rest of the weekend off. They return to action on Wednesday, September 4 as they open their home schedule against Sweet Briar College at 4:00 p.m.
