BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame volleyball opened up their 2019 season Friday night at local rival, Goucher College. In the close match decided by six points in three of the four sets, the Gators fell just short to the Gophers, 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 23-25, 24-26).
As a team, Notre Dame posted 47 kills, 90 digs, and seven aces.
Senior
Kayleigh Davis led the hitting effort, recording a career-high 20 kills. She hit for .182 in the match. Davis also added 15 digs and one block assist.
Senior
Mary Marquez and junior
Michaila Sheedy each finished the match with nine kills, while sophomore
Alyssa Kerns added six.
From the service line, six players tallied an ace, while Davis finished with two.
Senior
Sara Few paced the team with 41 assists, for a career-high.
Defensively, freshman
Ivanella Figueroa lead the team with 30 digs in her career debut. Davis, Marquez, and sophomore
Emma Jordan combined for 41 digs.
The team's 90 digs against Goucher is only the 10
th time since 2011 that the program has recorded 90 or more digs in a match. Last season, the Gators tallied 90 digs in their five-set victory over Shenandoah University.

The Gators are right back in action on Saturday, August 31. They travel to Shenandoah University to face the Hornets and Trinity Washington University in a trimatch. First match is set for 12:00 p.m. Follow along:
