Volleyball Goes 2-0 at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – In their second consecutive day of competition, the Gators are now above .500 after hitting the road for a trimatch hosted by Shenandoah University. 
 
NDMU vs. Shenandoah
Facing the host Hornets of Shenandoah, the Gators took the first set quickly, 25-14.  After climbing back late in the second set, the Gators fell just short, dropping the set 21-25.  NDMU swept the final two sets to score their first victory of the season (25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17).
 
In the set, NDMU had two players recorded double-digit kills, led by senior Kayleigh Davis with 14.  Sophomore Alyssa Kerns followed close behind with 13.  This is Kerns' sixth career 10+ kills match.
 
On defense, the team posted six blocks, led by junior Michaila Sheedy with two solos and two assists.  Freshman Ivanella Figueroa led the team in digs, finishing the game with 16, while the team racked up 60.  Seniors Mary Marquez, Davis, Sara Feweach had 11 or more in the match. 
 
From the service line, Davis paced the team with four aces.  Six different players contributed to the team's nine aces against the Hornets.
 
Few finished with 39 assists with the team posting 43 for the match. 

NDMU vs. Trinity Washington
In their second match of the day, the Gators faced Trinity Washington University.  NDMU defeated the Tigers in straight sets 3-0 (25-3, 25-6, 25-11).
 
Kerns and Davis also led the team in the match, combining for 11 of the team's 24. 
 
Freshman Gabbi Taganas tallied her first career kills, finishing the game with three.
 
In her career debut, freshman Cara McLaughlin posted 16 assists, two kills, and two aces.
 
Sophomore Angel Carino led the team with eight digs. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
After a tough two days of competition to open the season, the Gators will get a break next week as they will host Lincoln College (Pa.) in the home season opener.  The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m.
