Volleyball Advances to 9-2

ABINGTON, Pa. – Notre Dame volleyball advances to 9-2 overall this season after securing two victories Saturday afternoon at Penn State Abington. 

MATCH 1
In their first match of the day, the Gators faced off against Penn State Berks.  Last season, the Gators fell to the Nittany Lions in a five-set match, but this season NDMU downed PSU in straight sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-13). 

In the match, sophomore Michaila Sheedy and senior Kayleigh Davis combined for 16 kills, while Sheedy hit for .368.  Sophomore Alyssa Kerns added seven kills.

From the service line, the Gators racked up 10 aces, led by sophomore Emma Jordan with four.  Davis and senior Sara Few added two apiece. 

Defensively, NDMU tallied 57 digs, led by freshman Ivanella Figueroa with 25 digs.  This is her fifth match this season with 20+ digs.

The Gators also tallied four team blocks, led by Sheedy with two assists and one solo.

MATCH 2
In a very close match against host team, Penn State Abington, the Gators came out on top, securing a comeback victory over the Nittany Lions.  After dropping the first two sets by a total of five points, Notre Dame stepped up and posted the five set win 3-2 (22-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-14, 15-11).

Four players recorded 10+ kills in the win, led by Kerns with 13, posting her second 13 kill match this season.  Davis finished the match with 12 kills, while senior Mary Marquez and Sheedy added 10 apiece. 

From the service line, the Gators added 12 aces, led by Few with five, followed by Davis with four. 

NDMU posted 86 digs, with three players posting double figures.  Marquez led the team with 25, while Figueroa added 22.  Davis finished the match with 17.

Kerns was dominant on the front line, posting three assists and two solo blocks.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Gators are back on the road on Tuesday as they travel to Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday.  On Saturday they will host a trimatch against Medger Evers and Valley Forge.
