ROSEMONT, Pa.--The seven field hockey programs in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) will be participating in a 100-Mile Challenge initiated by the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) during the month of October in support of breast cancer awareness.
Field hockey student-athletes from Bryn Athyn College, Cedar Crest College, Centenary University, Lancaster Bible College, Keystone College, Notre Dame of Maryland University and Wilson College will join with AEC member Wesley College to show their support for a member of the Wolverine field hockey team, Alexis Howerin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 21. Check out
Part One of Alexis Howerin's Road to Recovery.
The
AEC initiated this challenge to its conference membership to create awareness about breast cancer amongst the college-age generation through the #LexStrong initiative and since then, several other Division III conferences have accepted this challenge as well as a show of support for this courageous young woman.
The AEC will be compiling a list of all participants who support this initiative at the end of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Donations from the CSAC community to raise awareness for this cause are also welcome.
Notre Dame of Maryland Universities field hockey team will be using the "Runkeeper" application, and competing a 100-mile group challenge. This app gives the team the opportunity to get automatic updates, and take photos and then add them to the "feed."
