BALTIMORE, Md. – Saturday the Notre Dame of Maryland Lacrosse team played their first home game of the season against the Bryn Mawr Owls. The game started fast and was exciting to watch from the first whistle. By the end of the half, the Gators were up by one over the Owls. NDMU came out strong in the second half, putting two in the back of the net within the first minute of play. The Owls felt the pressure and came back to score four more goals tying the game 8-8 with 18 minutes left. For most of the second half the score was back and forth. With less than a minute to play, the Gators were down by one, with possession of the ball as they quickly cleared it up the field. NDMU had the chance to tie the game in the last three seconds with a free position. Unfortunately, the shot did not find the net and the Gators fell to the Owls, 11-12.
The standout player of the game for the Gators was freshman
Sara Morales with five goals and two assists. Sophomore
Julie Hagis finished the game with two goals
, along with senior
Jessica Wells, junior
Hannah Mullaney, and sophomore
Vanessa Dunn all recording one goal for the home team. Sophomore
Kelsey Campbell was on fire on the circle earning five draw controls and additionally finished with recording one goal. Junior
Marie Salas held strong in the goal making 14 big saves for the team.
The Gator's overall record falls to 1-1 for the 2020 regular season.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Gators will continue their season by hosting a series of five games in the upcoming weeks, with two of the games set for next week. They will play Goucher College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Fast forwarding to next Saturday, NDMU will play Eastern Mennonite at 1:00 p.m. Before this game starts, there will be a ring ceremony honoring the 2019 Conference Championship team at 12:30 p.m. Both of these games next week are non-conference games.
