Notre Dame of Maryland University Announces Michele Rodriguez-Smith as Head Soccer Coach

BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame of Maryland University Department of Athletics announces Michele Rodriguez-Smith as the new head soccer coach. 

         Rodriguez-Smith comes to Notre Dame with an impressive background in collegiate coaching. She began her experience at Anne Arundel Community College from 1991-1994. She then went on to George Washington University for six seasons, where she was an assistant coach for four seasons, and served as head coach for two. She then went on to the University of Georgia, where she spent four seasons as the top assistant coach. During this time, the team went to the Southeast Conference Tournament three times, while heading to the NCAA Tournament twice. 

    Most recently, Rodriguez-Smith served as the first assistant coach for the college of William and Mary. At William and Mary, Rodriguez-Smith wore many hats, not only being the first assistant coach, but also serving as the recruiting coordinator, a liaison to the Directors of Academic Support and Compliance, a liaison to the Sports Medicine Department, as well as a liaison for the Strength and Conditioning Coach. During her time here, the team reached an NCAA record 34th straight winning season, while being a Colonial Athletic Association Semi-finalist.

    In addition to collegiate coaching, Rodriguez-Smith has worked for Washington Capital United, as the Director of the Girls Soccer Program. She has also worked with U.S. Soccer Federation, serving as a National Scout, where she scouts competitive soccer tournaments, to evaluate elite soccer players for the U.S. Youth National Teams.

    Rodriguez-Smith attended the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral and Social Science, with a minor in Kinesiology.

    Rodriguez-Smith is looking forward to bringing her expertise to Notre Dame. She explains, "I would like to thank NDMU's search committee and in particular, Athletic Director, Renee Bostic, for this opportunity. I am honored to be a part of a community that values excellence in women. I look forward to being part of the Gator family and guiding the soccer team in achieving their academic and athletic goals."
