BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland University volleyball tallied 22 service aces in its 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-12, 26-24) win over Bryn Athyn (2-12, 2-4 CSAC) on Tuesday evening. The Gators went up against a relentless Lions squad that was able to steal the first set and force the Gators to a 26-24 finish in the final set. With the win, Notre Dame improves to 6-1 in the CSAC and 11-10 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators got off to a slow start in the first down 7-4 early on. Paulina Hernandez, Ciarra Bockstie, and Miasia Ferrer got blocks that allowed the Gators to cut into the Lions lead.
- Emma Mueller and the Gators came storming back to tie the set 22-22. Mueller had seven assists in the first set. Bryn Athyn went on to win the set 25-22.
- In the second set, Ferrer jump started the Gators at the net with two kills to take a 6-4 lead. After a momentum-shifting kill from Bockstie to go up 7-4, it was all Notre Dame from then on. Mueller had six service aces and Candace Forgach-Aguilar came in to clean up with the set point on an ace.
- The Gators attack would carry over into the third set. Notre Dame as a unit combined for seven service aces.
- Stephanie Morgan, Jade Stewart, and Angel Carino were excellent on the defensive receiving end for the Gators. The trio finished with 12, 11, and 10 digs respectively.
- Natalie Newton, Gabbi Taganas and Erin Shaw delivered huge kills in the fourth to give Notre Dame a 3-1 win.
OF NOTE
- Taganas finished with a team-high nine kills.
- Newton stretches her streak of 12 or more assists to eight games. Mueller led the team with 21 and eight service aces.
- Five Gators finished with five or more kills.
- Notre Dame (Md.) leads the all-time series 6-0.
