Gators Fall Late 2-0

BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland University's soccer team (3-5-0, 2-2-0 CSAC) went deep into a defensive battle against Cairn University (6-4-1, 2-0-1 CSAC) on Tuesday evening. Jamie Norris was protective of her goal all evening long as the sophomore was able to tally a career best 15 saves in the defensive bout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Notre Dame went into the conference match up a bit short handed with two defensive starters out but the Gators defenders were disruptive all evening long.
  • Sara Morales got the start at the center back position and the captain was able to provide stifling defense to support Jamie Norris in goal.
  • With the score tied at zero with 17 minutes left to play in the first, Roselynn Kamara gave Notre Dame its best look but the Highlanders would get the stop on a defensive block.  The Gators were credited with a corner kick but from that point, the offense struggled to get going.
  • Norris ended the first half with the shutout and eight saves.
  • Emma Alascia got a good look at the goal to start the second but the Gators were unable to capitalize.
  • A late goal with just over five minutes of play would prove to be the game-winner.

OF NOTE
  • Norris ended the evening with 15 saves. Norris had combined for five total in her previous appearances this season.
  • The Gators were outshot 21-2 but kept it close and attempted two corners to the Highlanders three.
  • NDMU's all-time record falls to 2-11 against Cairn.
