BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland volleyball moves to the top of the CSAC standings after sweeping Wilson College 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) on Wednesday evening in the 30th meeting between the two conference foes. With the win, the Gators are a perfect 3-0 in the CSAC and will improve to 8-9 overall.
Emma Mueller and
Gabbi Taganas were lights out on the attack, while
Natalie Newton had her fourth consecutive 12-plus assists game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators won the first set 25-20 led by Taganas who had five kills to get the offense going. Newton had five assists to match Taganas. She would end the evening with 13 assists. The most she's he'd during the four-game span of 12 or more assists.
- Mueller and Taganas would dominate around the net the rest of the evening. Mueller had seven kills, 14 assists, three kills while hitting .462 on the attack.
- Notre Dame (Md.) ran away with the second set 25-17 and made an even quicker work out of the final set, 25-15.
- Taganas, hitting .500 on the evening, finished with a match-high 11 kills. Mueller was next in line with seven. Jade Stewart and Anna Gamble each added five for the Gators offense.
- Angel Carino contributed 13 digs and Paulina Hernandez had 10 to back the Gators defense.
OF NOTE
- Taganas is Notre Dame's top attack specialist with 90 kills on the year. Stewart is second at 74 and Mueller rounds out the top-3 for the Gators with 72.
- Mueller leads the Gators with 199 assists on the year. Newton sits comfortably behind her teammate at 182, looking to surpass the 200 mark. Newton's largest assist total in a single game is 23 (Sept. 23 vs Penn St York)
- Notre Dame (Md.) is dominating the all-time matchup against Wilson 29-1 after the win.
- The Gators as a unit combined for 33 kills.
- Taganas, Mueller, Hernandez, and Ciarra Bockstie all had a block in the win.
