BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland volleyball team got a 29-assist performance from
Natalie Newton to continue its nine-game win streak against CSAC opponents. The Gators defeated the Giants in a clean sweep, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-15) to improve to 9-9 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
Our play at the net was really strong today," Head Coach
Henry DeTitta said. "Hitting .347 was key to helping pick up our defense. Our serving was also tough with 17 aces but we do need to eliminate our errors moving forward.
Gabbi Taganas and
Anna Gamble were big putting balls away and
Natalie Newton did a great job stepping up to run the offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Anna Gamble had yet another product outing at the net for the Gators. The captain tallied three kills in the first and ended the afternoon with seven.
- Gabbi Taganas was her usual self, putting up points early to get the Gators. Stephanie Morgan got the serve late in the first and she responded with three service aces to get the Gators out to a 25-18 set one win.
- Taganas went on to finish the day with 10 kills to lead the Gators. Jade Stewart got in on the action and added seven kills to tying Gamble for second most.
- Newton was masterful with her set pieces. Her 29 assists are the most by any Gator this year. She kept the Gators attack on schedule with four service aces.
- Candace Forgach-Aguilar led the team with a career-best five kills.
- Angel Carino led the defense with eight digs.
OF NOTE
- Newton has had 12 or more assists in five consecutive games.
- Taganas finished with double digits kills for the second straight game, hitting .643 in the win. She now has 100 kills this season.
- The Gators will take a two-game series lead 8-6.
- Notre Dame (Md.) combined for 17 service aces in the win. Five Gators had two or more service aces.
- Newton eclipses the 200 assists mark on the season with her second 20-plus assists game.
