BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team secured a 55-48 win against Cedar Crest (1-5, 0-3 CSAC) for its second straight CSAC victory on Thursday night.
Daija Fitchett (17 points, 14 rebounds) and
Ayana Brim (15 points, 7 rebounds) combined for 32 points to lead in the win. Notre Dame (Md.) will improve to 3-1 in the CSAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amya Durham continued to find her shot as starting the ballgame off with a clean layup assisted by Bethani Newbold.
- Daija Fitchett started the game 3-3 with seven points as the Gators led 10-5.
- Early in the second quarter, Fitchett stole a pass and got the score on the other end to even the score 14-14. She added four points In the quarter.
- Front-court mate Brim took over in the second quarter. She scored six points as the Gators fought to control the paint.
- In the third quarter, the Gators had five assists on six made field-goal attempts in the quarter.
- Brim cracked double-figures with the Gators first bucket in the second half. Her fifth game in double-figures this season, 27th of her career.
- With eight minutes to play, Amya Durham found Alexis Durham for a deep three. On the following Gator possession, Amya Durham came down the court and scored a layin to give Notre Dame its largest lead 35-26.
- In the fourth quarter, Fitchett stole two passes, with her first leading to a Gator score on the offensive end to push the Gators lead to 43-36.
- The Falcons were able to cut into the Gators 44-40 with 4:34 to play. Chantel Curry extended the Gators lead after knocking down a three-pointer on a pass from Amya Durham. Curry is averaging 6.6 points per game and she's made a three-pointer in each of the last four contests.
- The Gators front-court tandem of Fitchett and Brim each had a late score with just over two minutes to play to secure the win.
OF NOTE
- Alexis Durham is averaging 6.2 assists in the last four games. Amya Durham had a game-high five assists. She has 30 on the season.
- Fitchett was in double-figures for the sixth time this season. She's hit double-figures 31 times in her collegiate career. Fitchett also got in double-figures rebounding for the six consecutive games. Her 36th game with more than ten boards.
- Brim has scored in double-figures in 27 of her 33 appearances as a Gator.
- The Gators shot 40% shooting (23-for-57). Notre Dame out rebounded the Falcons 43-32, 15-7 on the offensive boards.
