HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Gators women's lacrosse team showed no signs of slowing down, winning another lopsided affair, 20-6, visiting the Cyclones of Centenary University. The win takes them to 4-0, while outscoring their opponents 73-23 on the season.
Notre Dame of Maryland allowed the first goal of the game which marked the first time they had trailed in a game all season. One minute and 55 seconds later,
Kelsey Campbell evened the score at 1-1, and the Gators were off and running. Nine unanswered goals in 14 minutes of game time seemingly put the game out of reach.
Campbell led the scoring early with five first half goals. Along with
Sara Morales and
Hannah Mullaney, Notre Dame of Maryland controlled the midfield and attack, outshooting Centenary 26-7 in opening period. The Gators lead the Cyclones 13-4 at halftime.
Five more goals to open the second half made it 18-4, and the Gators could slow the pace, and cruise to a 20-6 win.
20 goals are an NDMU season high, eclipsing the 19 they scored in the season opener versus Keystone.
Kelsey Campbell, junior, has now posted seven goals in back-to-back games, bringing her season total up to 23. Sophomore, Sara Morales, along with Campbell, led with eight points each on the day. (Morales: 3 G, 5 A). Junior, Hannah Mullaney, scored a season high five goals in the win. Better known for her defense, senior
, Michaela Seay, netted her first goal of the season, while
Vanessa Dunn and
Katie Hawkins notched two goals apiece.
The NDMU Gators (4-0, 4-0) will wrap up their regular season back at home next Saturday, when they host the Cedar Crest Falcons (0-2, 0-2), who have a date with Centenary this Thursday.
