SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's lacrosse team remained undefeated picking up a 17-7 win in their first road test of the season. The game against Wilson College was moved to Shippensburg University.
The high scoring Gators were challenged early in this one. Got off to a little bit of a slower start than they have been accustomed to in their first two games in the comfort of home. They never trailed the Phoenix, but led by a slim 6-5 margin late in the first half. Once they regained their confidence, the Gators went on an 11-2 run the rest of the way, peppering the net with 39 shots, 29 of them on goal on the day.
The duo of
Kelsey Campbelland
Sara Morales each posted a team leading seven points in the contest. Campbell's seven goals are tied for a game best on the season, as Morales netted seven in the season opener against Keystone. Campbell, a Junior, now leads the team with 16 scores and 23 points on the year. With her five scores today, Morales brings her season total up to 14 goals and 19 points. The 5'10" sophomore also continued to dominate the draw circle, controlling 12 draws for the Gators.
Junior,
Julie Hagis also logged two assists with some fine passing in the offensive zone. She found the back of the net twice giving her six goals on the year. Senior,
Michaela Seay, caused six turnovers in the win, and Freshman,
Averee Radonovich, picked up her first career goal.
It's a quick turnaround for the Gators (3-0, 3-0) as they'll head up to New Jersey on Saturday looking to stay hot against the Centenary Cyclones (0-2, 0-2) coming off a full week of rest. Centenary's two losses on the season came 16-3 at Bryn Athyn, and 14-7 vs. Wilson. In their last meeting, the Gators shutout the Cyclones 18-0 back in April of 2019.
