Kayla Grube penalty kick was the difference for the Notre Dame of Maryland University's soccer club on Friday evening in a 1-0 win over Gallaudet University (0-1-0). Freshman
Julie Mullaney was called upon and she delivered a clean sheet for the Gators in her first college start. The Gators will improve to (1-0-0) after picking up win number one on the new year. Notre Dame (Md.) will look to carry the momentum into Sunday's match against Drew University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Led by Captain Sara Morales, Notre Dame (Md.) was aggressive on the attack, connecting on four of its six shot attempts.
- Grube delivered a handful of through-balls but the Gators were unable to capitalize in the first half.
- The Gators defense held Gallaudet to zero shots on goal in the first half. Notre Dame (Md.) was stout on the defensive end all evening long.
- Five minutes into the second half freshmen Averee Radonovich almost had a shot at goal but a foul on the rebound shot attempt by freshman Roselynn Kamara resulted in Grube penalty score.
- Mullaney sealed the victory for Notre Dame (Md.) with a critical stop with just under four minutes of play.
OF NOTE
- Notre Dame (Md.) out shot Gallaudet 16-9 and held the advantage in the shots on target category 9-3.
- NDMD tallied eight corners to the Bisons' two.
- Morales led the way with eight shot attempts.
- Mullaney ended the day with three saves.
