BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland University used a spirited rally late in the third set to extend the match, but Cedar Crest ultimately pulled out a 3-1 road victory at MBK Sports Complex on Wednesday. Set scores were 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 25-11.
The Falcons (10-8, 7-1 CSAC) move into a tie for first place in the CSAC standings with the Gators (14-7, 7-1 CSAC), and Cedar Crest now holds the tiebreaker with one match remaining in the regular season. NDMU, which is guaranteed to host a conference semifinal as a top-two seed on Thursday, Nov. 3, has one more CSAC regular season matchup at Clarks Summit on Saturday.
Gabbi Taganas led NDMU with 12 kills, including four during a 7-1 run to close out the third set. The Gators rallied from deficits of 8-1, 10-4 and 21-18 in that frame.
Jade Stewart added seven kills and 17 digs in the defeat, while
Paulina Hernandez finished with 19 digs and
Emma Mueller supplied six kills, three aces, 10 assists and seven digs.
Natalie Newton led the home side with 21 assists.
Ellise Everett (14 kills, six blocks) and Maddison Minyo (10 kills, 11 digs) led the offensive output for Cedar Crest.
The Gators suffered their first setback since September 17 while seeing a 12-match winning streak come to an end. They will look to get back on track Thursday, when they host Cheyney for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
