New Form Gators Remain Hot Just in Time for Season Finale

BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team (12-9, 12-5 CSAC) blow past the Valley Forge (7-14, CSAC 7-11) with lights out shooting and domination on the backboards all evening. All ten Gators tallied a rebound including Daija Fitchett became the program's third all-time leading rebounder, surpassing her coach Zaria Comer (2014-18). Notre Dame had nine of ten players record a score in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gators showcased a tough well-rounded defense in the first, challenging shots and forcing the Patriots to 1-of-16 in the quarter.
  • Up 6-5 with 3:07 to go in the quarter, Alexis Durham drained an open three on a pass from Fitchett and the Gators went on a 9-0 run to close out the first. Fitchett was dominant early with two blocks. Her 15th multi-block performance of the season.
  • Notre Dame ran away with the momentum in the second after a Chentel Curry steal led to two threes from Adrianna Fletcher
  • Fletcher was disruptive on the defensive adding three steals. The Gators supporting cast scored 14 of the 19 second-quarter points. Elena Rodriguez came on and added four points.
  • NDMU took a 33-13 lead into the half and came out with the same intensity defensively while finding a second gear offensively.
  • Durham and Fitchett each had eight points in the quarter as the Gators went on to score 26 points on 73 percent shooting (11-for-15). Bethani Newbold and Durham each had three assists in the third.
  • Durham dished out seven assists in the second and would finish the game with 15 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.
  • Ayana Brim scored her first career three-pointer to give Notre Dame a 42-point lead. She finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and a steal.
  • Jasmine Gardner and Newbold each had four points in the fourth as the Gators went on to seize the 35-point victory.

OF NOTE
  • Notre Dame of Maryland can still get the No. 2 seed with a win Saturday on Senior Day and with a Keystone (16-7, 13-4 CSAC) loss. If the Gators and Keystone finish tied at 13-5 in conference play, the Gators get the No. 2 seed by virtue of a win over No. 1 Clarks Summit (20-4, 16-1 CSAC).
  • Fitchett now at 784 career rebounds, jumps Coach Comer (772). She also picked up her 15th double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) along with a tenth straight multi-block game (15th this year). Fitchett 47 blocks this season ties Qiana Smith (2002-05) for fourth-most by a Gator.
  • Alexis Durham has 116 assists on the season and now moves into the top four on the single-season list with just seven assists away from tying Lesley Dobson (2001-02).
  • Notre Dame will honor Fletcher, the program's third all-time leading three-point shooter on Saturday at Senior Day.
  • Notre Dame moves to 9-3 all-time against Valley Forge.
