BALTIMORE – Four student-athletes recorded six-plus kills, and Notre Dame of Maryland University registered 14 aces from the service line in a dominant 3-0 victory over Washington Adventist on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-7, 25-16, 25-19.
Ciarra Bockstie led the Gators in kills (8), attack percentage (.533) and aces (4) during the victory.
Gabbi Taganas added seven kills (.500%), while
Natalie Newton chipped in 15 assists, five digs and three aces.
Already leading 8-4 in the opening set, NDMU took control with an extended 14-0 run and maintained its advantage for the remainder of the contest. The last 13 of those points came on Bockstie's serve, and she picked up all four of her aces during that stretch.
The Gators finished with a 14-1 advantage in aces. Other strong contributors on the service line included
Paulina Hernandez (3 aces),
Candace Forgach-Aguilar (2) and
Jade Stewart (2). Stewart led the defensive effort with 10 digs, while Hernandez and Forgach-Aguilar had seven apiece.
Other offensive leaders included
Miasia Ferrer (six kills, .364%) and Stewart (six kills, .333%). NDMU's team attack percentage of .450% in the first set was a new season high.
The Gators remain at MBK Sports Complex on Thursday, hosting St. Mary's College of Maryland in a non-conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
