Volleyball Sweeps St. Mary’s (Md.), Extends Win Streak to Three

BALTIMORE – Ciarra Bockstie, Rosemary O'Brien and Jade Stewart each had seven kills, while Paulina Hernandez led the defense with 16 digs for Notre Dame of Maryland University in a 3-0 home sweep over St. Mary's (Md.) on Thursday. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

Emma Mueller added a team-high four aces to go along with 10 assists and six digs, and Natalie Newton chipped in 11 assists for the Gators (5-6), who swept their opponent for a third-consecutive match.

NDMU held a slim 14-12 lead midway through the opening set, when two kills from Bockstie, a kill by Candace Forgach-Aguilar and a Newton ace highlighted a 4-0 run which allowed the home side to open up a comfortable six-point advantage. Forgach-Aguilar and Hernandez both had a pair of aces in the contest, and the Gators had 10 of the match's 12 aces overall from the service line.

After briefly trailing by a 5-4 margin early in the second set, NDMU used an 11-2 stretch to take control of the frame. A Stewart kill finished off the set, and she would also add the match-clinching kill in the third set for the home side.

Stewart and Bockstie both supplied three blocks in the victory for the Gators, while Erin Shaw had a season-high four kills and a .667 attack percentage. Meghan Stevens led the Seahawks (4-5) with seven kills and 12 digs.

NDMU is back at MBK Sports Complex on Tuesday night, hosting Trinity Washington University at 7 p.m.
