BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer kept rolling, earning their third-straight victory by defeating the University of Valley Forge by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The Gators (5-5-1 Overall, 3-2 United East) immediately put Valley Forge under pressure, firing a flurry of shots in the opening minutes. In the 13th minute Hector Alvarez blasted a shot off the post and then Adrian Andersen collected the rebound and put a shot on frame that was saved. The Gators continued to push the issue, finally breaking through in the 23rd minute. Tassilo Lehmkuhl sent a ball down the sideline to Matthew Marty and Marty sent a cross into the box. Andersen was able to redirect the cross into the back of the net, giving NDMU the 1-0 lead. The goal was his fourth of the season.
NDMU remained in control of the flow of the game, constantly creating shots as the Gators held a 24-8 edge in shots. The Patriots (2-10-2 Overall, 0-4 United East) tried to level the game in the 70th and 77th minutes putting shots on frame, but Victor Jaunay was up for the challenge making both saves. Jaunay earned his first career shutout in the process.
