BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland women's volleyball team won their eighth straight match, defeating Wilson College in straight sets on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The Gators secured the victory thanks to set scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-10.
The Gators (13-8 Overall, 6-1 United East) got off to a fast start, building a 6-1 lead. During the first set, Paulina Hernandez reached a career milestone, earning her 1,000th career dig. Hernandez is the ninth player in school history to achieve this honor. Using the momentum from this achievement, NDMU rolled to a 25-12 victory.
NDMU's offensive attack was led by Miasia Ferrer who finished the match with eight kills on 19 swings. Gabbi Tangas had another excellent performance, registering six kills. The Gators block disrupted Wilson's attack, with NDMU recording nine blocks led by Ciarra Bockstie who posted 6 blocking assists. NDMU posted 13 service aces with Jade Stewart collecting five aces.
The Gators were pushed in the second set, with Wilson College remaining within two points throughout the set. Bockstie closed out the set with a well-timed kill. NDMU then pulled away in the final set, building a 15-point lead enroute to the three-set victory.
WHO'S NEXT?
The Gators will return home to celebrate Senior Day when NDMU faces St. Elizabeth University on Saturday, Oct. 28. The first serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
