Gators Fall To Immaculata at Stevenson Tip-Off Tournament

Owings Mills, MD- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's basketball team could not complete their second half surge, falling to Immaculata by a score of 66-56 in the Stevenson Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17.   

The Gators got off to a slow start, falling behind by a score of 9-2 in the opening five minutes. Daraun Gray jump started the offense, hitting a 3-pointer. Jahbreco Dacosta got on the board, pulling in an offensive rebound and putting it back to keep the Gators within four points. Gray knocked down his 3-pointer of the game, but the Mighty Macs responded, going on a 7-0 run. K'Won Johnson halted the run, finishing a pair of layups to restart the offense. Jalen Yates and Gray hit 3-pointers down the stretch, bringing NDMU back within eight points going into the half.  

Gray started the second half off with a bang, knocking down another 3-pointer. Yates followed with another 3-pointer and Dacosta finished a layup in the paint to bring NDMU within four points. Johnson then scored back-to-back baskets, turning the secon into a three-point play that closed the Gators within one point. The teams traded baskets throughout the second half, with a Gray jumper tying the game at 53. The Gators could not capture the lead, as Immaculata finished the game on a 13-3 run to earn the victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Gray led the Gators in scoring, racking up 14 points by connecting on four 3-pointers. 

  • Johnson went 4-7 from the field scoring 10 points while hauling in eight rebounds. 

  • Dacosta came up just short of a double-double finishing with a team high 11 rebounds and nine points. 

  • Immaculata won the battle on the glass, holding a 51-42 edge in rebounds. 

  • The Mighty Macs were led in scoring by Dinero Washington 

WHO'S NEXT? 
The Gators will be back in action when they take on York College (NY) in their second game in the Stevenson Tip-Off Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
