BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame (MD) women's lacrosse team could not keep pace with Goucher College, falling by a score of 17-5 on Wednesday, Mar. 15.
The Gators had four players find the back of the cage, including
Sarah Generoso who scored two goals. Defensively
Emma Alascia collected a team high six ground balls and forced three turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators (0-5 Overall) fell in an early hole as the Gophers (2-6 Overall) scored the first three goals of the game.
Jade Stewart put NDMU on the board, taking a pass from Generoso and slashing to the net for a goal. Goucher responded, scoring just before the end of the quarter, to a hold a 4-1 advantage.
Goucher scored the first two goals of the second quarter, but on the ensuing draw, Generoso gain possession. She raced past several defenders, sliding a shot past the goalie for her first goal of the game. Later in the quarter,
Averee Radonovich drew a foul and capitalized on free position opportunity, lasering a shot into the back of the net. NDMU trailed 7-3 heading into the half.
The Gophers pushed their advantage to seven early in the third quarter, before Alascia scored her first goal of the game. Moments later, Stewart found a cutting Generoso for her second goal of the game, making the score 10-5. Goucher halted NDMU's rally and used six fourth quarter goals to pull away and pick up a 17-5 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Generoso led the Gators, scoring two goals and dishing an assist. In addition she won seven draw controls and collected four ground balls
- Radonovich was extremely active, scooping up five ground balls and forcing two turnovers to go along with her goal
- Alascia filled her stat line, recording a goal, six ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls
- Stewart scored her 18th goal of the season and also dished an assist
- Goucher was led by Katie Kebrich, who scored six goals
