BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame (Md.) women's lacrosse team could not complete a late rally falling to Keystone College by a score of 13-12 on Wednesday, Apr. 12.
The Gators were powered by
Jade Stewart who finished the game with four goals and two assist.
Emma Alascia and
Sarah Generoso each scored three goals for the Gators.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators (1-9 Overall; 0-2 CSAC) struggled to the offense going early in the first quarter, allowing the Giants (3-5 Overall; 2-0 CSAC) to race out to an early 3-0 lead. Stewart got NDMU on the board, launching a shot from just inside the circle to make the score 3-1. Keystone answered back scoring before the end of the quarter to lead 4-1 heading to the second quarter.
The Giants added to their lead, scoring the first two goals of the second quarter. Alascia scored her first goal of the game, gathering in her own rebound and flicking the ball into the back of the net.
Averee Radonovich took the ball the length of the field and slashed to the goal, placing a nifty shot past the keeper to pull NDMU back within three. After a Keystone goal, Alascia capitalized on a man advantage, wrapping around the goal to score for the second time. The Giants closed the half with one last goal, leading 8-4 at the break.
Keystone scored a quick goal to kick off the action in the third quarter, but NDMU had an immediate response.
Rosemary O'Brien scored her first goal of the season, finishing off a great pass from Stewart. Moments later Radonovich found a cutting Stewart to pull NDMU back within three. Generoso scored her first goal of the game, scoring on a free position shot to make the score 9-7. Later in the quarter, Stewart pulled NDMU back within one, scoring just before the shot clock expired. Keystone recaptured the momentum, halting NDMU's run by scoring the final two goals of the quarter to lead 11-8 heading to the fourth quarter.
NDMU opened the scoring in the fourth quarter, with Alascia striking on a free position shot to make the score 11-9. Two quick goals by the Giants helped Keystone seize momentum. Generoso netted her second goal of the game off a pass from Stewart to make the score 13-10 with 3:45 remaining in the game. Generoso scored again, this time on a free position shot to bring NDMU within two. Stewart took a pass from Generoso and fired a shot into the back of the goal to make it a one goal game with just over a minute remaining in the game. The Gators could not complete the late rally, falling 13-12.
