BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit, falling to Albright College by a score of 2-1 on Monday, Sept. 18.
The Gators (2-3 Overall) fell behind early as the Lions (5-1 Overall) capitalized on a free kick opportunity, scoring in the 2nd minute. NDMU looked for an immediate answer and found one in the 15th minute.
Cristo Sanchez Cabrera gathered a loose ball in the offensive midfield. After taking a couple of touches, Cabrera rocketed a shot toward goal that caught the bottom of the crossbar and bounced over the end line to even the game at one. The Lions looked to respond, firing five more shots in the half, but
Jakob Erhard was up for the challenge keeping the score level going into the break.
Albright started the second half quickly, firing three shots in the first five minutes of the half. The Lions drew a foul in the box in the 52nd minute, earning a penalty kick that they convert to grab a 2-1 lead. NDMU tried to battle back with
Hector Alvarez and
Jefferson Da Silva each putting shots on frame. The Gators best scoring chance came in the 83rd minute when NDMU earned a free kick from 25-yards out. Sanchez Cabrera took the free kick, blasting a shot on frame, but the Lions were able to make the save. The Gators could not tie the score, falling 2-1.
