Gators Continue Winning Streak at Rosemont

BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's basketball team continued its impressive winning streak, defeating Rosemont College by a score of 82-36 to secure their ninth-straight win on Wednesday, Jan. 10.   

The Gators started quickly, winning the opening tip and immediately finding Bethani Newbold for layup. Amya Durham then swished a 3-pointer to push the lead to five. Newbold and Sariyah Waller hit back-to-back jumpers, giving NDMU a 9-0 lead. The Gators continued to pound way in the interior with Amani Watts and Durham converting layups. Watts hit a jumper with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter, giving the Gators a 19-2 lead. Rosemont tried to battle back, scoring six straight points to close back within 11 points. Watts closed out the opening quarter, finishing a layup in the final seconds to give the team a 13-point lead heading into the second quarter.  

Hillary Howard started the attack, scoring a layup and drawing a foul to complete a three-point play. Alexis Jones got into the act pulling in an offensive rebound and powering in the put back. Howard continued scoring by knocking down two free throws and drilling a jump shot to give the Gators a 30-11 advantage. After another basket by Watts, Elena Rodriguez converted a layup in traffic. Charlie Henry finished a layup off a nice pass by Durham, pushing the advantage to 28 points. Durham closed the half with another jump shot, giving the Gators a 42-16 lead at the break.  

Howard remained hot in the third quarter, scoring the first six points of the quarter. After a bucket by the Ravens, Howard added two more layups and Watts completed a three-point play. The Gators continued to stretch their advantage, leading by as many as 38 points and holding a 67-30 lead going to the final quarter. With the large lead, NDMU turned to its bench to close out the win, and the group stepped up holding Rosemont to six points in the final 10 minutes. Yasmeen Yussuf and Henry each got to the basket in the final frame, securing the 82-36 victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Howard exploded on the offensive end of the floor, scoring a career-high 25 points, going 10-14 from the field.  

  • Watts added another double-double, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Currently, Watts ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division III in doubles-doubles with 10 on the season.   

  • Durham filed the stat line, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.  

  • Rodriguez and Waller each finished with six points.  

  • The Gators dominated the glass, finishing with a 58-31 edge in rebounds. 

  • Rosemont was led by Alona Stanley, who scored 15 points.  

WHO'S NEXT? 
The Gators will return home to host Keystone College on Saturday, Jan 13. The tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
