Bryn Athyn, Pa. - The Notre Dame of Maryland men's basketball team traveled to face Bryn Athyn College on Monday, Jan. 15, falling to the Lions by a score of 61-56
The Gators traded baskets early in the first half with Jahbreco Dacosta powering in a layup to give NDMU a 7-4 lead. After another layup by Dacosta, Marquis James swished a 3-pointer to put the Gators up by eight. Dezmyn Nicholson pushed the advantage to ten, hitting a jump shot. The Lions answered back, going on a 17-1 run to take a six-point lead. NDMU slowed the Lions run, but the Gators trailed 26-19 at the half.
NDMU chipped away at their halftime deficit early in the second half, with back-to-back baskets by K'Won Johnson brought the team within three points. The Gators remained within striking distance, closing within one after a layup in transition by Jackson Pugh. The Lions once again answered back, going on a 10-0 run to stretch their lead back to double digits. NDMU looked to make one last push in the final two minutes. Jalen Yates hit a 3-pointer to close back within six points. After several defensive stands, Cole Matthews hit a 3-pointer to pull within three with :31 seconds remaining. Bryn Athyn hit a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach, securing the victory.
