BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's basketball team picked up a critical road victory, taking down Bryn Athyn College by a score of 51-35 on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
The Gators grabbed the early advantage, with Hillary Howard converting a layup on the games first possession. Amani Watts rattled off the next four points, pushing the Gators ahead 6-1. Howard then swished a hook shot and Alexis Jones finished a layup to put NDMU ahead 10-1. The Lions battled back, scoring five points in the final minutes of the quarter, but they trailed 15-6 heading into the second quarter.
NDMU continued to attack the post in the second quarter, with Howard and Watts converting layups in the paint. The Gators pushed their lead to 13 points after a jumper by Sariyah Waller. The Lions fought back, closing within eight in the last seconds of the half. Waller hit one more layup as the half expired, giving NDMU a 27-17 lead heading into the second half.
The Gators blasted out of the gate in the second half, opening the third quarter 11-1 run to take control of the game. The Lions halted the run momentarily, scoring five of the next six points to cut back within 15 points. Jones restarted the offense, powering in a layup and then Amya Durham converted two layups to push the lead back to 19 points. In the final quarter, the Gators looked to put the game away with Chantel Curry hitting a 3-pointer to put NDMU ahead by 18 points. The Gators turned up their defensive pressure, holding Bryn Athyn to only two points over the final five minutes of play, securing the 51-35 victory.

The Gators will come home to take on Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, Jan. 20. The tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
