BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's basketball team grinded out a 49-42 to secure the regular season sweep of Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Gators got off to a slow start, falling behind early in the first quarter despite a 3-pointer from Amya Durham. The Lions took an early 10-5 lead before Hillary Howard powered in a layup. Sariyah Waller knocked down a 3-pointer in the final minute of the quarter to knot the score at 10. NDMU struggled in the second quarter, only scoring six points, but thanks to an excellent defensive effort, the Gators only trailed by 22-16 at the half.
After some halftime adjustments, the Gators climbed back into the game in the third quarter. Howard started the half by converting a layup in the paint and then Durham swished a jump shot to bring NDMU within two points. Alexis Jones put back an offensive rebound to tie the game at 22 and then Chantel Curry gave the Gators the lead finishing a layup in transition. After Bryn Athyn retook the lead, Elena Rodriguez connected on a 3-pointer to put the Gators back in front. The Lions fought back, closing the quarter on a 7-3 run to hold a two-point advantage going into the final quarter.
The Gators chipped away the deficit throughout the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, with Durham knocking down a 3-pointer to tie the score at 38 with five minutes remaining in the game. Kathryn DeGrange hit two key free throws to put the Gators ahead. Howard then scored a layup off an inbounds pass by Durham to put NDMU ahead by three. Curry collected a defensive rebound and sprinted out on the break for a layup to make the score 44-39. Durham then delivered the dagger, hitting one more 3-pointer to put the game out of reach, securing the 49-42 victory.

Durham led the Gators with 14 points, connecting three times from beyond the arc. She also collected a team-high eight rebounds.
