BALTIMORE - The Notre Dame of Maryland men's basketball team could not hang on in their upset attempt against Bryn Athyn College, falling to the Lions by a score of 63-61 on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Gators got off to a fast start taking the early lead on a 3-pointer by K'Won Johnson. After a layup by Jahbreco Dacosta, Johnson again connected from beyond the arc to push the lead to seven. Bryn Athyn answered back, using an 11-0 run to retake the lead. Amari Bell halted the run, finishing a layup to in transition. NDMU remained within striking distance with a 3-pointer by Daraun Gray making the score 26-25, Jermaine Koger Jr. put the Gators ahead with a layup. The Gators would score the final nine points of the first half, holding a 34-26 at the break.
Bryn Athyn closed the gap early in the second half, going on a 9-4 to close within 3-points. Johnson hit a 3-pointer to halt the run momentarily, but the Lions tied the game 43 with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Having captured the momentum, the Lions built a nine-point lead before Jalen Yates hit a 3-pointer on the wing. The Gators continued to battle, closing within three after a Johnson 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining in regulation. NDMU would get a look at tying the game in the final seconds, but could not capitalize, eventually falling 63-61.

Johnson led the Gators in scoring, racking up 20 points while pulling in seven rebounds.

Dacosta pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds to along with five points.

Koger Jr powered in nine points, to along with three assists and three rebounds.

Bryn Athyn was led in scoring by Isaac Marshall who scored 21 points off the bench.

The Gators will continue their homestand, hosting the University of Valley Forge Tuesday, Jan. 23. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
