Media, PA - The Notre Dame of Maryland Women's Volleyball team earn their first United East victory of the season, defeating Penn St. Brandywine in straight sets on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Gators rolled winning the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-15.
The Gators controlled the match with their serves, registering 16 service aces in the three-set match to keep the Lions off balance. NDMU pulled away early in the first holding an 8-3 lead off a kill by
Emily Gordon. The Gators continued to dominate Brandywine, pushing their advantage to 13 after a kill off an overpass by
Ciarra Bockstie. The Lions made a push to close the gap at the end of the set, but NDMU captured the set victory.
NDMU picked up in the second set right where they left off in the first set, building a commanding 10-2 lead. Later in the set, kills by Bockstie and
Jade Stewart sparked a 7-0 run, putting NDMU ahead by 13. Gordon closed out the second set, slamming down two more kills to secure the 2-0 lead in the match.
During the third set, Stewart recorded her 1,000
th career dig, becoming the 9
th player in school history to reach this mark. NDMU led by as many as 10 points as a service ace by
Paulina Hernandez put the exclamation point on the Gators first United East win of the season.
The Gators were led in kills by Gordon who finished the match with 11 while
Miasia Ferrer added eight more.
Emma Mueller controlled the offensive attack, racking up 18 assists. Hernandez finished the match with 14 digs and six service aces.
