BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland Women's Volleyball Team dropped a hard-fought 5-set battle with Penn State Albright College, on Saturday, Oct. 5.
In a nail-biting volleyball showdown, Notre Dame of Maryland faced off against Penn State Abington in a match that went down to the wire. Despite a valiant effort, Notre Dame fell just short in a thrilling five-set contest, with final scores of 28-26, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, and 12-15. The match was a roller coaster from the start, with both teams showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive grit. Notre Dame came out strong, edging Penn State Abington 28-26 in the opening set, thanks to key kills from Emma Mueller and Ciarra Bockstie. Mueller led the team with an impressive 19 kills, while Bockstie added 13, and Emily Gordon chipped in with 10 crucial kills.
Notre Dame carried their momentum into the second set, taking a 25-23 victory to go up 2-0. Paulina Hernandez was a standout at the service line, delivering 4 aces, while Natalie Newton and Gordon each added one ace to keep Penn State Abington on their heels. Hernandez also led a stellar defensive effort with an astounding 47 digs, keeping rallies alive and denying Abington key points. However, Penn State Abington regrouped in the third set, coming back with a vengeance to win 25-19. Notre Dame's defense continued to shine, with Gwen Abnett (7 blocks) and Miasia Ferrer (5 blocks) forming a wall at the net. Mueller also contributed defensively with 2 blocks, but the team's offense struggled to find its rhythm as Penn State began to shift geards. The fourth set was another closely contested battle, but Penn State Abington edged out a 25-23 win to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, Penn State Abington emerged victorious, 15-12, in a dramatic finish. Despite the loss, Notre Dame showed incredible resilience throughout the match, highlighted by Jade Stewart, who added 26 digs, and Candace Forgach-Aguilar, who contributed 14 digs of her own.

The Gators will hop back on the road to face University of Valley Forge on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
