Women’s Volleyball Claims Victory in First Round of United East Championship

Women's Volleyball

Baltimore- NDMU Women's Volleyball team delivered a powerful performance in a clean sweep over Penn State Berks, winning 25-13, 25-21, and 25-17 this past Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Leading the offensive attack was Ciarra Bockstie, who racked up an impressive eight kills, repeatedly finding ways to exploit gaps in Penn State Berks' defense. Miasia Ferrer contributed six kills, while Emma Mueller added four, giving the team a well-rounded offensive lineup that kept their opponents on their toes.

Notre Dame's strong serving game also played a crucial role in the win. Mueller was outstanding at the service line, scoring three aces, while Paulina Hernandez and Natalie Newton each added two aces to keep Penn State Berks under constant pressure. Their aggressive serving contributed significantly to maintaining momentum and piling up points quickly in each set.

Defensively, Bockstie led the team with two blocks, while Mueller and Gwen Abnett each recorded one, forming a formidable front line that limited Penn State's chances for clean attacks. The blocking efforts helped set the tone for a defensive wall that Penn State Berks struggled to break through.

In the back row, Hernandez led the digs column with 12, consistently keeping the ball in play and allowing Notre Dame's offense to set up strategic plays. Mueller was equally impactful on defense, adding 11 digs, while Jade Stewart chipped in with eight, ensuring that Notre Dame stayed in control of the tempo even when Penn State threatened.

Mueller also shone as the team's primary setter, leading with 12 assists to coordinate the offense with precision and skill. Newton provided eight assists, with Candace Forgach-Aguilar adding two, showcasing Notre Dame's ability to distribute the ball effectively and keep their offense unpredictable. Leading the Gator's to victory in the first round of the United East Championships.
