Lacrosse Falls in Regular Season Finale

BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale, falling to Bryn Athyn College by a score of 15-4 on Saturday, Apr. 20.  

The Gators struggled to find their groove throughout the first quarter, allowing the Lions to race out to a 4-0 first quarter advantage. Bryn Athyn scored the first three goals of the second quarter, pushing their advantage to seven. Jade Stewart put the Gators on the board, scoring on a free position shot to make the score 7-1. NDMU slowed the Lions offense for the remainder of the half, trailing by six at the half. 

NDMU got off to a better start in the second half with Stewart finding Emily Funez for the first goal of the third quarter. After a Lions goal, Cailyn Motta collected a ground ball in the offensive end and fired a shot into the back of the goal to make the score 8-3. Bryn Athyn finished the quarter on a 4-0 run, holding a 12-3 advantage heading into the final quarter. Trailing by 11 in the fourth quarter, Stewart found Sarah Generoso for a goal. The Gators could not pull any closer, eventually falling 15-4.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Stewart led the offense, scoring once and dishing out two assists. 

  • Generoso scored once adding two additional draw controls 

  • Emma Alascia collected three ground balls, reaching the 100 career ground balls milestone. 

  • Motta and Funez each scored once.  

WHO'S NEXT 
Despite the loss, NDMU clinched a spot in the United East Championship Tournament and will travel to face #4 Cedar Crest College Saturday Apr. 27.
